Why does my relatively new Point Cook garage floor have a crack in it?
Because of what is under it rather than how old it is. The western basalt plains soils here are among the more reactive in Melbourne, expanding and contracting seasonally, and that moves slabs regardless of their age. Cracks running from a corner or across the door opening are the common pattern. It needs cutting out and filling flexibly rather than rigidly, because a rigid fill in reactive ground reopens along the same line within a season or two.
